Sugat-Kabanhawan Festival

When it comes to celebration, Minglanilla is known for its Sugat Kabanhawan. Many tourists would come by to watch spectacular presentation. Sugat Kabanhawan is played during Easter Sunday because it is the day when Jesus was risen.
The play is presented with Virgin Mary welcoming Christ her son for Jesus is risen. After that, Judas Escariot will commit a suicide because he was guilty for he betrayed and trade Jesus' life for 30 silver.

Sugat Kabanhawan has been a tradition since 1889. This is made possible by the help of Gov. Gwen Garcia, First Lady Governor of Cebu who pledged to support this laudable project financially. With the capable leaders joining hands to make this project a success, present during the launch were the Minglanilla local government officials headed by Vice Mayor Lani Peña (Mayor Eddie Selma was indisposed), the Immaculate Heart of May Parish priest Msgr. Esteban Binghay and the Parish Pastoral Council head Mary Ellen Lim Abella. They decided to present, the first ever “Kabanhawan Festival” – a day long festivity that is far different from what used to be before. And definitely, the public would enjoy celebrating.
